What is Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical engineering is one of the widest and oldest engineering discipline. Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, build and innovate mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, engines and machines. It is a discipline which requires a creative and analytical mind to tackle mechanical problems in our everyday lives.

In terms of technical job tasks, mechanical engineers design and oversee the manufacturing of products, generators, engines and other machines that we see everywhere, ranging from small parts such as batteries to elevators to automotives. Mechanical engineers, also use computers extensively to create prototypes and simulate the workings of a design.

What are the requirements to study the course?

  • Pass SPM with at least a Credit in THREE (3) subjects including Mathematics and a Pass in English Language.
  • A minimum C Grade at SPM/ GCE O-Levels or equivalent in any two subjects chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics/ Additional Mathematics.
  • A minimum C Grade at GCE A-Levels in Mathematics/ Additional Mathematics, one Science subject, two other subjects.
  • Student’s should possess a Bachelor Degree in Engineering with CGPA of at least 3.00 or 2.75 or Bachelor Degree in Sciences with CGPA of at least 3.25 or 3.00.
  • At least three years of working experience in relevant field is preferred.

Most of the companies, even insurance companies also hire mechanical engineers. Some notable local companies that offers high job demands are UEM, Shell Malaysia, Perodua and Dyson Malaysia.
